Welcome to 4th. Grade

Dear Families,

We welcome you to fourth grade! We are delighted to have the opportunity to work with you and your child this year. This year will be an exciting year for everyone, and we will work together to make fourth grade the best year yet! To facilitate this, each student is asked to bring in supplies (School Supply List was given out with the Report Card. It can also be found BELOW). Please send in the listed supplies as noted for the first and second day of school on Thursday, September 8th and 9th 2022.

4th Grade Mission Statement

This year, we will work hard on fostering independence in reading, writing, and math, and expressing our individuality and culture. Students will be participating in deepening their discussions rooted in personal experience and textual evidence. In writing, students will write across multiple genres using all they know to write fictional and nonfictional texts. In math, students will strengthen their adding and subtracting skills as well as flexing their multiplication facts to get them ready for fraction work! In social studies, students will begin a journey from learning why we study maps to the exploration of government. In science, students will learn about energy, vision and light, and earth’s features.

School Hours

Arrival and dismissal will take place at the main entrance on 18th avenue. Please be sure to arrive on time for both arrival and dismissal for a smooth transition.

Communication

Communication bridges families and P.S. 48 and the key to a successful classroom. In the beginning of September, you will be able to join the teacher’s “Remind” messaging app (information will be forthcoming). This is a great way to be able to communicate with your child’s teacher(s). Principal, Mrs. Hogan, and Parent Coordinator, Mrs. Magenta, are also connected via the “Remind” messaging app. Important information such as school events, meetings, assemblies, etc. will be made available to you through the app. Another way of contacting your child’s teacher or speaking with a school official is by calling the main office at 718-232-3873.

Absences/Lateness

If your child is absent, please notify the teacher and/or school. School officials call daily if there is an absence. Also, please send in a doctor’s note and/or a note from home when your child returns to school. We understand that it’s inevitable to be late at times due to unforeseen circumstances; however, please make every effort for your child to come to school on time daily. It is important that your child learns the responsibility of being on time so that it will benefit them later on in life.

Allergies/ Medication

It is very important that you notify us if your child has any allergies or ailments. If your child needs medication, please notify our school nurse so that she can send home the appropriate paperwork. Please do not send in nuts/nut products of any kind. This rule applies to all students.

We look forward to the partnership between families and school. We are confident that this will be a rewarding and successful school year!
