Arrival Procedures for Bus Students

Students that are approved for bus service will arrive on 6015 18th Avenue. Attendance is taken as students get off the bus.

Lateness After Arrival Time

It’s important that students arrive on time so they do not miss the beginning of the school day. Instruction begins at 8:10 AM. Students arriving after 8:15 AM will receive a late pass and it will be recorded on their report card and on their cumulative record. In addition, you will receive a call from our automated system indicating that your child was late. Students arriving late on the school bus will not be marked late. 4 latenesses in a month will result in a letter home that needs to be signed and returned to the school.

Dismissal

Teachers dismiss classes starting at 2:20. Students must be picked up by an adult on the Emergency Blue Card. If there is a change for pick up and the person is not on the Blue Card, a note should be sent into school with the name of the person and a guardian signature. This is to ensure safety for all students. If the person is not listed on the Blue Card and there is no note, the school will contact you for next steps.

No vehicles will be permitted to park on 18th Avenue in the designated no standing zones. We request your cooperation in parking legally at arrival and dismissal. Double parking creates a safety hazard for all. Please be courteous to our neighbors. DO NOT block driveways or crosswalks. An NYPD Officer will be at dismissal from time to time to enforce this policy and, if necessary, a summons will be issued.

Early Dismissal

The teacher must be notified in writing if your child has to leave early from school so we can ensure your child is prepared for early pick up. We pride ourselves on providing a quality education for our children. Every instructional minute counts. To maintain order and to ensure the safety of all children, no child will be dismissed between 2:15 PM and dismissal. The reason for this is that during this time children are preparing for dismissal and the following day. Additionally, it is also during this time that children are transitioning throughout the building to prepare for dismissal.

Late Pickup at Dismissal

Dismissal begins at 2:20 PM on Monday-Friday for students. Parents must arrive on time to pick up their child each day. Children who aren’t picked up before 2:28 will be brought to the late table on the 61st Street side cafeteria. Parents/Guardians will be required to show a valid photo ID and sign out your child.
